Jeep Wrangler TJ/LJ (97-06)
1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ and 04-06 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited LJ
This is the rig that brought round headlights and the classic looks of the CJ back to Jeep's flagship vehicle, and together for the first time with modern coil spring suspension on top of the irreplaceable off-road capabilities of front and rear solid axles.
Borrowing the "quadralink" suspension and AMC Inline 6 engine of the XJ, along with it's own rear coil suspension and a fully boxed ladder frame, this Jeep had true off-road grit with better on-road manners then any Wrangler or CJ before it. In 2002, a package that included upgraded axles with locking differentials, a 4:1 ratio transfer case, and rockers were unveiled in the TJ "Rubicon" for the first time as a 2003 year model.
Building on the success of the TJ Wrangler, the first Wrangler Unlimited was released as a late 2004 year model -- adding 10 inches of wheelbase and 15 inches of body in total for additional rear seat leg room and cargo space. Sometimes referred to as the "TJ Unlimited" or "TJL", the Jeep community has come to most commonly refer to this long wheelbase model as the "LJ."
For this reason, many Jeep TJ components will work on LJs, however some components are specific to each model and will not interchange.
