This skid is designed to give you a smooth ramp up and over obstacles while also offering protection and reinforcement to the cast section of your axle that houses the FAD components. The "FAD" (the Front Axle Disconnect) on the Wrangler and Gladiator happens to be some of the lowest hanging fruit on the entire vehicle for rocks and obstacles to catch on. Protecting this component on your factory front JL/JT axle is crucial if you want to be able to engage 4 wheel drive and put power down to the trail using all 4 wheels!
This skid plate is designed using precise 3D scans and is laser cut from 1/4" thick high strength HRPO steel & CNC formed for a precision fit. At a 1/4" thick, this skid is already twice the thickness of the factory FAD skid plate. The bolt on layer of UHMW (included!) that is located beneath the steel skid also makes it more difficult to get hung up on rocks since it's slippery and impact resistant -- it's the same material we use underneath our belly skids! Installation takes about 10 minutes and uses existing factory mounting points to attach.
This skid plate is available in bare metal so you can paint it the color of your choice, or in a silver/clear zinc finish that prevents rust and oxidation.
