If you’re wheeling real trails, a giant spare hanging off the back of your JL is more liability than asset.

This JL Spare Tire Delete & License Plate Relocation Bracket lets you pull the spare off the tailgate so you can climb up, drop off big ledges, and not worry about the tire catching and shoving into your tailgate. You gain departure angle, reduce stress on the tailgate and hinges, and open up your rear visibility—all while keeping your license plate, third brake light, and backup camera where they belong.

We build this panel from lightweight aluminum so it won’t rust and it’s more than strong enough for what it needs to do: hold your plate, your third brake light, and your camera in a clean, trail-ready package. It’s the same style of setup we run on our own shop Jeeps.

Camera Mount + Two Lighting Options 

This isn’t just a flat plate. The bracket is designed to:

• Retain your factory JL backup camera

• Relocate your license plate to the tailgate

• Support two different third brake light + plate light configurations,

1) Factory-style configuration
Run your factory JL third brake light on the optional bracket and add small bolt-on LED lamps to illuminate the license plate. Simple, clean, and familiar.

2) Baja Designs RTL-M configuration (bracket is optional and the RTL-M light is sold separately)
Use the optional RTL-specific bracket to mount a Baja Designs RTL-M (sold separately), which gives you a bright, functional third brake light AND license plate lighting in one compact package. This dramatically improves visibility for anyone following you—especially in dust, at night, or in low-light trail conditions.

In both setups, you’ll re-route your plate light wiring so the plate lights come on with your tail lamps (not just the brake). It’s straightforward 12V work—most folks pull a lead from the passenger-side tail lamp harness inside the body and run it to the delete panel.

That’s why we highly recommend running the optional RTL-M bracket with a Baja Designs RTL-M —you clean up the back of the Jeep, gain departure angle, and make yourself much easier to see when you’re on the brakes.
